Harry Potter Rolls Into Rivendell

For the first time in 3 years, the Rivendell Academy Players have chosen a comedy for the upcoming fall play. The play, The Adventures of Sally Cotter, is a humorous spin on the well known Harry Potter series.

Director and performing arts teacher, Anna Alden gave us this preview, “It’s a loving parody of all things Harry Potter. While Sally falls asleep reading books about a certain juvenile wizard, she dreams that she is a student at Frog Bull Academy of Sorcery. There she meets Headmaster Albatross Underdrawers, Gamekeeper Ruebenon Ryebread and Professor Shiftia Shape. But danger is lurking and it's up to Sally and new friends Dave and Harmonica to defeat the schemes of the evil Lord Murderdeath.” Will she become the hero like the one in her favorite series?

14 actors are featured in the play, this includes 3 familiar faces, Sarah Parenti, Caleb Day, and Izzy Formica. With help from new faces to the acting scene, and some actors playing more than one role, Alden was able to fill all spots despite the fact she expanded the play into two different stories of the Potter series for each act, instead of the original one for the whole play.

From the students I’ve talked to there is a lot of excitement at this point for the comedic parody. “I’ve always liked the Harry Potter series so I’m looking forward to seeing a lighter, funnier side.” said senior, Jacob Kamel.
