The Eagles Have Landed

This year the Philadelphia Eagles were able to redeem themselves and beat the New England Patriots 41-33 winning the first ever Super Bowl in Philadelphia's franchise history. Along with winning the Super Bowl, Nick Foles was named Super Bowl LII MVP; he had 373 receiving yards, three touchdowns and one touchdown interception. Brandon Graham had the only sack throughout the entire game and Blout and Ajayi made a great team, gaining 147 receiving yards and a touchdown. Zach Ertz was the other player who got himself a touchdown. Although the Patriots held the lead at one point during the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to defeat the Eagles and claim anther Super Bowl ring for the notorious Tom Brady and Bill Belichick duo.

The Patriots won the coin flip and gave the Eagles the ball first. Maybe if they kept the ball for themselves, it would of been enough to beat the Eagles. The Eagles scored a 25 yard field goal within the first half of the quarter; the Patriots then countered back and kicked a successful 26 yard field goal to tie the game. With just two minutes left in the first quarter, Foles threw a touchdown pass to Jeffery to regain the lead with a score of 9-3.

Unfortunately during the second quarter, Cooks was blindsided by the Eagles’ defense and taken to the locker room; he was later ruled out of the game due to a significant head injury. Gronk had been cleared to play just days before the Super Bowl after he, too, had sustained a head injury. The Eagles were able to score another touchdown, allowing them to have a 12 point lead over the Patriots. A twelve point lead didn't settle with the Pats, so they kicked a 45 yard field goal to bring the score within 6 points. In the last thirty seconds before halftime Burton threw to Foles for yet another touchdown making the score 22-12 and leaving the Eagles with another lead of the Patriots.

Gronk came out in the third quarter and scored a 14 yard touchdown, making the score 22-19. The Eagles quickly came out and also scored another touchdown making the score 29-19, again giving the Eagles another lead. With only three minutes left in the third quarter, Brady threw a 26 yard touchdown to Amendola making the score 29-26 and changing the distance between the lead.

One minute into the fourth quarter, the Eagles kicked a 42 yard field goal making the score 32-26. It took another five minutes before the Patriots were able to score another touchdown which made it a one point game but minutes later the eagles lead again 38-33. When the Patriots made a mistake the Eagles were quick to pick it up and use it to their advantage and kicked their successful 44 yard field goal making an even bigger stretch, with the Eagles winning 41-33. With no time left of the clock Brady threw a hail mary to Gronk but it unfortunately bounced off his helmet. If the touchdown had been made, that would mean overtime and the game would have been tied, giving either team an equal opportunity to win. But the Patriots couldn’t pull off a comeback, meaning that the Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl against the New England Patriots 41-33.

Overall, I think that it was a well played game and even though I’m upset the Pats lost, I think it’s good for them to take a break and come kick butt in future years. This game was better than others because they just played football and there was no deflategate or other cheating rumors. With no other interruptions than just the game itself, it was much easier to focus on the plays and who was actually doing their job.
