Winter Carnival 2018

Winter Carnival, one of the most important days of the school year. The theme this year is “Earth”. There is big hype this year about all the new changes that have been made recently. Instead of just doing Tug-of-War the way it has always been, choosing your most strongest peers, we are doing it differently. This year we are doing it by weight. Your entire team has to weigh the maximum of 6666 Newtons. This makes it a little bit more fair. We are also introducing a few new events. We are doing an event called Cheeto Face, where you put shaving cream on someones face and another person throws Cheetos at them and whatever team has the most Cheetos stuck to their face wins. Another new event we are doing this year is a Push Up contest, which we are doing instead of arm wrestling this year.

Winter Carnival is a day that most students look forward to most every school year as classes get very competitive towards each other. This year’s seniors have won Tug-of-War since they were in 8th grade, so they are hoping to take the crown one last time. Every little event is competitive, from the Paper Airplane Flying contest to Indoor Soccer to the grand finale of the day, Air Band. It is the one day where the whole school is against each other, and only cheering for their own classmates. The teachers also get into it. They want their class to win just as much as the students want to win.

Rivalries are always a big factor of how your day goes as a student during Winter Carnival. As a Seventh grader, the day is not that fun because you are getting beat by upperclassmen in every event, but once you get older the intensity is as big as the school, and it becomes your favorite day of the year. A big rivalry is always between the juniors and the seniors. As for this year’s juniors and seniors, the juniors won last year, and the seniors won the year before that. This is the year the seniors have to take the crown away from them. I know that as a senior who really likes to win winter carnival, we have to give it everything we got if we want to take home the gold.
