First Week of Games

The season got underway this Saturday with the boys and girls teams playing at South Royalton on Saturday. Luck was not in Rivendell's favor this time as the boys fall 3-2 and the girls lost 18-4. The boys also played a game against Sharon Academy on Tuesday the 24th. They won that game 4-0.

The girls' opener in South Royalton did not finish in their favor but there was still many reasons to be excited about it. For starters, they scored 4 runs during the difficult day showing serious signs of improvement from last season. They played a very good South Royalton softball team and showed that they can still hit the ball and score runs. This being said they know they have room to grow. The fielding was a concern and they look to work on that for their upcoming contest in Thetford tonight, April 27th.

The boys away opener also proved unsuccessful after they fell to South Royalton 3-2 in a game that they were leading until the 5th inning. Starting the game was pitcher Zach Gould. Through 5 innings he only allowed 1 run. Zach also managed to round the bases to score after a lead-off single followed later by Dash Fukushima. Later that same inning South Royalton brought in 2 runs. In the final inning Rivendell was down 1 run and attempting to make a rally when Charlie Bradley managed to hit a hard line drive to the gap and made it to first. With runners on base and a chance to tie the game Rivendell fell flat and was unable to get the hits necessary to bring him home. This was a problem that plagued the boys in their next game.

The boys home opener this tuesday against Sharon Academy saw Rivendell leave 7 runners on base despite coming home with the 4-0 victory. This was something that the Raptors felt they needed to work on in preparation for their next game. When talking with Coach Eric Reichert “We need to attack the ball. Just load up and attack it.” He thought that they really shouldn't be leaving that many runners on base especially with a sub-average team like Sharon.

The softball team looks to fight back towards .500 with a game against Thetford tonight as the boys hope to wake up on saturday with more wins than losses
